All About The Lakme Fashion Week 2019


Fashion week has been a boon in many ways to the fashion industry. We see many new and interesting designs and trends from around the world. Fashion week plays a vital role in the fashion industry as it has become a great communication platform between designers and fashion admirers. The most popular fashion week that people eagerly wait to attend is Lakme Fashion Week 2019.

Lakme Fashion week acts as a platform that has provided an opportunity for all the designers to showcase their talent by their designs. Every year Lakme Fashion Week has brought something different and special and this year also it has brought something unique and eye-catching.

It started on 29th January 2019. The event took place at The Royal Opera House, Mumbai. Most adorable designers put their most fashionable step forward to showcase the summer/resort 2019 collection. So let’s have a look at the most stunning looks from the season.

All About Day 1 of Lakme Fashion Week

The Day 1 collection of Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2019 pioneered fresh trends that are set to rule our hearts! 

 The opening show was done by none other than the groundbreaking designer Gaurav Gupta. The show began with a dramatic manifestation of an angel, who was no one other than Gaurav Gupta’s close friend, Navkirat Sodhi, reading live poetry. The light show on her huge gown and the music set the mood just right for the designer’s collection of the season, called “The Unfolding”. 

The clothes showed Gaurav’s style of cocktail dressing with heavy embellishments. He stole the show in hues of black, white, Grey and a flash of red. Although the whole collection was a mix of hand-woven fabrics and Benarasi brocade along with the designer’s signature gravitydefying pattern. 

The main attraction of the collection was the use of Indian chikankari. Hence, this designer infused this centuries-old Indian craft to give it a new meaning and revive it.

Together, Karan Johar and Tabu opened the show for Gaurav Gupta. Director Karan Johar was dressed in an edgy red blazer with embellished black and silver detailing. This was paired up with a black shirt and matching pants to slay the whole look.

Actress Tabu was looking stunning in an icy blue off-shoulder gown. With heavy sequined work and floral detailing, this gown stood out from the rest. Above all, bold red lipstick with a sleek centre-parted hair completed the look. and as a result designer, Gaurav gupta stole the show .

The Day 1 was all about #artmeetsfashion, in conclusion, it was about spreading consciousness on the subject of sustainable fashion, encouraging fashionistas to wear their values with both pride and style. Models sashayed down the ramp donning trench coats, bomber jackets, asymmetrical hems which were customized. After that dragonfly brooches and sequin puffed sleeves added much action to the collection.

Moreover, men’s collection consisted of high- neck cropped tops, oversized shirts while the women’s collection comprised of unusually draped saris and knotted floor- length overcoat. On the other hand, Arora’s collection was unconventional with drawstring dresses, unstructured jacket and even bell sleeved jackets.

Day 2 Was All About Pretty Florals and Hues

Day 2 of Lakme Fashion Week 2019 Summer/Resort was all set to spread glamour with some known as well as new designers from the industry. Here are some of the best highlights from day 2 of the season for which people were looking forward.

Anita Dongre showcased her Spring’/Summer’19 collection on Day 2 of the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week. The collection featured light, flowy, silhouettes in floral patterns along with hues of yellow, apricot, seafoam, surf blue, onion pink, blush, pista green, marigold yellow, misty blue, champagne pink and lavender. Light -weight lehengas, maxi dresses, jumpsuits, salwar suits and crop tops with skirts were sported by the models.

Anaam fashionably combined craft and modernity. On the runway, colours moved from rich teal to bright green, royal purple and electric blue, along with hints of deep grey for unconventional silhouett. 

Jyoti Reddy’s Ereena, which works with Eri silk fabrics, offered a multi- coloured collection with feather – like textures Ereena’s showstopper bollywood actor Malavika Mohanan wore a body-con cord set, with a flowing white train trailing behind her.

Punctuated with natural nudes, ruffles, embellished necklines and sleeves, Rossebelle’s display was built with recycled and upcycled fabric while some pieces were discretely embroidered with golden stones.

The day 3 of the Lakmé Fashion Week S/R’19 was all about breaking norms of the conventional Indian fashion trends for women and menswear alike, as designers opted for contrasting techniques, silhouettes and colours.

Indigenous silhouettes met western casuals with ensembles created with ornate lehengas paired with denim jackets, along with a functionality kick with soft organza jackets against printed denim shararas. The menswear included embellished bandgala jackets, kurtas, churidars, offcentre closure tunics and long bundies with kurtas.

Designer Payal Singhal, introduced her collection with pieces such as modern saris, renaissance tops, tie-up blouses, curved asymmetric kurtas, one-sleeved slim maxi gipsy blouse with low crotch pants sporting attached dupatta and then, brought in a sari with frilled pallav and skirt.

All About Day 4 at Lakme Fashion Week 2019

Day 4 of Lakme Fashion Week 2019 was busier and buzzer thanks to all the conversation-starter moments the runway served up. The label, known for its use of geometric prints and patterns (recently worn by Frieda Pinto) on lady-of-leisure kaftans, had a lineup featuring sheer jackets pants and skirts.

Last Day That Ended With a Bang!

Last but not the least, Day 5. From Ranveer Singh’s spontaneous rap performance to Kareena Kapoor Khan playing showstopper for Shantanu & Nikhil finale show. Here’s everything that went down on the last day at Lakmé Fashion Week 2019.

At last, it came to a dramatic close with designers Shantanu and Nikhil Mehra presenting their collection. And it wasn’t just Kapoor Khan who graced the runway—her sister Karisma Kapoor closed the show for Punit Balana; her sister-in-law Soha Ali Khan walked for Neha Agarwal.

Fabrics like gota lampi, tulle, organza and silk were decorated with hand embroideries. The colour palette included shades of white, ivory, blush, mauve and grey. The celebrity showstopper for this show was Diana.

The celebrity showstoppers only increased as the day went on. Celebrities Isabelle Kaif, Bhumi Pednekar, Karan Johar and Lisa Haydon came together on the runway to share the limelight.

Conclusion of The LFW

At last, taking everything into account, we can conclude from Lakme Fashion Week 2019 that colours are back in the game such as icy-blue, yellow, white, magenta, red, pale gold, evergreen black and some hues of black, white and grey are in trend this season.

Looking at silhouettes like ruffles, straight cut is in trend. Backless always hit the ramp and this 2019 has also come up with ”backless”. Other than that, the voluminous skirt stole the show! Talking about fabrics like silk ( Kanjivaram saree) are touching the heart of fashion admirers. And prints like Bandhani and surface ornamentation like embellishments, embroidery are setting the stage perfect this year in Lakme Fashion week 2019.
